SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- South Milwaukee police are searching for a killer after a startling discovery was made last night. Two teens were found dead in a car outside an apartment complex.

We're on a dead end street. On the other side of that fence are some trees that lead to Lake Michigan. And it's in this secluded spot that the horrific discovery was made.

Ava Allen's being remembered by friends for her smile.

"Just hanging out with her, and just being with her just made me happy," said Colin Frey, Allen's friend.

Allen, a Franklin High School senior, and her older cousin, Jaelen Yracheta, who graduated from South Milwaukee High School last year, pulled into spot number nine at the Bay Heights Apartments Thursday, but didn't get to leave.

"Really weird, hard to believe," said Frey.

South Milwaukee police say the teens were shot to death. Yracheta's mom told neighbors she'd been looking for him, and pinged his cell phone to this location, off 5th Avenue and Bay Heights. She was notified of his death at the scene.

"Heart kind of just dropped. I was like okay, this is kind of scary a little bit because it's like right where I live and it's not something that you would expect," said neighbor Zachary Pundsack.

Nearly 24 hours after the shooting, South Milwaukee police returned to the crime scene to look around.

"Kind of hoping that everything gets solved and I hope the family gets everything taken care of and prayers go out to them," said Pundsack.

The holiday break, now bringing sadness to students. A parent in the South Milwaukee School District showed us an email sent to families, saying when school resumes on the 3rd, counselors will be available.

"I miss her but I know we can all smile again at some point. I'm excited for those moments," said Frey.

Anyone with cameras outside their home in this area, and nearby, are asked to take a close look at the footage between 6:00 and 10:00 Thursday night and send anything suspicious to police.
