20-year-old woman dies by apparent suicide at Milwaukee County Jail
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 20-year-old Milwaukee woman died by apparent suicide at the Milwaukee County Jail Friday morning, Dec. 16.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office says the woman, who had been in custody since February on a felony charge of strangulation and suffocation and a misdemeanor charge of battery, was discovered conscious but in distress in her cell jail personnel at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Medical personnel and Emergency Medical Services first-responders were summoned to treat the woman, who was later declared dead just before 11:15 a.m.
Per Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office policy and Wisconsin law,
"The investigation into this tragic loss of life is being conducted by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased," the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The MCSO is cooperating fully with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department as they investigate.
