WISCONSIN (CBS 58) — Six weeks into the Wisconsin high school football season, the list of unbeaten teams is getting shorter, contenders are beginning to separate themselves from the field and every Friday night is carrying a little more weight.

Week 6 offered another loaded slate across the state, highlighted by Division 1 No. 1 Arrowhead making another statement, Hamilton and Homestead keeping perfect seasons alive, Muskego bouncing back from its first loss and several ranked teams finding themselves on the wrong side of an upset.

Perhaps no game in southeastern Wisconsin carried more intrigue than Arrowhead's trip to face Division 1 No. 5 Oconomowoc.

The Raccoons entered the night with plenty of momentum after knocking off Muskego 19-16 in Week 5, handing the Warriors their first loss of the season. But ending Arrowhead's unbeaten run proved to be a much different challenge.

The top-ranked Warhawks went into a difficult road environment on Oconomowoc's homecoming night and dominated, shutting out the Raccoons 35-0.

Arrowhead improved to 6-0 and added another impressive result to a résumé that already includes wins over Marquette, Neenah, Catholic Memorial, Brookfield East and Kettle Moraine. Oconomowoc fell to 4-2 after seeing its two-game winning streak come to an end.

Muskego had something to prove after its loss to Oconomowoc, and the Division 1 No. 6 Warriors responded emphatically against No. 10 Franklin.

The Sabers had climbed back into the rankings after recovering from an 0-2 start with three consecutive victories, but Muskego controlled Friday's matchup and came away with a 31-6 win.

The Warriors improved to 5-1, while Franklin fell back to .500 at 3-3.

Division 1 No. 4 Hamilton remained right alongside Arrowhead among the state's undefeated powers.

The Chargers faced Division 3 No. 6 Catholic Memorial and rolled to a 48-14 victory, improving to 6-0.

It has been a brutal stretch for Catholic Memorial. The Crusaders were once ranked No. 1 in Division 3 but have now lost four consecutive games, all against Division 1 opponents — Arrowhead, Muskego, Marquette and Hamilton.

Catholic Memorial dropped to 2-4, but few teams around the state have navigated a more demanding stretch of opponents.

Another undefeated powerhouse kept rolling in the North Shore, where Division 2 No. 3 Homestead hosted Division 3 No. 8 Whitefish Bay.

The Blue Dukes entered with a 4-1 record and had already established themselves as one of the area's better teams, but Homestead remained perfect with a convincing 42-20 victory.

The Highlanders improved to 6-0, while Whitefish Bay fell to 4-2.

Division 3 No. 1 Pewaukee also had little trouble protecting its undefeated record.

West Allis Hale faced one of the toughest assignments on the Week 6 schedule, and the Pirates dominated from start to finish in a 56-0 victory.

Pewaukee moved to 6-0, while Hale fell to 1-5.

Port Washington joined the group of southeastern Wisconsin teams still without a loss. The Division 3 No. 2 Pirates defeated Kettle Moraine Lutheran 29-10 to improve to 6-0.

The Chargers fell to 3-3.

Union Grove has quietly continued to build one of the strongest starts in the area as well.

The Division 2 No. 4 Broncos hosted Westosha Central and rolled to a 42-7 victory. Union Grove improved to 6-0, while Westosha Central fell to 2-4 with its third consecutive loss.

Racine Case continued to show why it belongs among Division 1's ranked teams.

The No. 9 Eagles hosted a Kenosha Bradford team that entered at 4-1 and came away with a 37-22 victory.

Case improved to 5-1, with its only loss coming against unbeaten Hamilton. Bradford fell to 4-2.

Kenosha Indian Trail is also building a résumé worthy of attention.

The Hawks overwhelmed Racine Horlick 56-7 to improve to 5-1. Horlick dropped to 2-4.

Division 6 No. 8 Kenosha St. Joseph also put together one of the night's biggest offensive performances, defeating Brookfield Academy 55-6.

The Lancers improved to 5-1, while Brookfield Academy fell to 2-4.

Oak Creek got itself back to .500 with a dominant road performance against Kenosha Tremper.

The Knights won 40-3 to improve to 3-3. Tremper fell to 1-5.

New Berlin West continued its strong season with another convincing victory.

The Division 3 No. 10 Vikings defeated Wauwatosa East 49-7 to improve to 5-1. The Red Raiders fell to 3-3.

New Berlin Eisenhower also entered Friday with plenty at stake in a matchup against Waukesha South.

The Lions and Blackshirts played a much different style of game, with Eisenhower prevailing 17-7 in a defensive battle.

Eisenhower improved to 5-1, while Waukesha South fell to 4-2 after a second consecutive loss.

Greendale's turnaround continued to gain momentum.

The Panthers opened the season 0-2 under first-year head coach Jakup Sinani but have completely changed the direction of their season since.

Greendale traveled to South Milwaukee and won 42-15 for its fourth consecutive victory.

The Panthers are now 4-2 after their difficult start, while South Milwaukee fell to 3-3.

Brookfield Central also found its way back into the win column after navigating a punishing stretch of ranked opponents.

The Lancers went on the road and defeated Germantown 38-15, snapping a three-game losing streak.

Both teams moved to 3-3.

One of the area's notable upsets came in West Bend.

Division 2 No. 7 Grafton entered its matchup against West Bend West at 4-1, but the Spartans protected their home field and earned a 33-21 victory.

The result moved both teams to 4-2 and gave West Bend West one of its biggest victories of the season.

Burlington, meanwhile, ran into trouble on the road against Badger.

The Badgers broke through against a Burlington defense that had helped the Demons get off to a strong start, earning a 46-21 victory.

Burlington fell to 4-2, while Badger improved to 2-4.

The major results weren't limited to southeastern Wisconsin.

Division 1 No. 2 Bay Port continued its perfect season with another dominant showing, traveling to Appleton West and winning 55-7.

The Pirates improved to 6-0, while Appleton West fell to 3-3 after a third consecutive loss.

Division 1 No. 3 West De Pere also stayed unbeaten.

The Phantoms hosted a solid Pulaski team and pulled away for a 35-10 victory.

West De Pere improved to 6-0, while the Red Raiders fell to 4-2.

Notre Dame Academy continued to look like one of the state's most imposing teams.

The Division 2 No. 1 Tritons, led by Wisconsin commit Kingston Allen, shut out Oshkosh North 49-0.

Notre Dame improved to 6-0, while Oshkosh North dropped to 2-4.

Division 2 No. 2 Monona Grove kept pace with a 56-21 victory against Sun Prairie East.

The Silver Eagles remained perfect at 6-0, while Sun Prairie East fell to 3-3.

Division 2 No. 5 New Richmond had no trouble avoiding an upset on the road against River Falls.

The Tigers won 35-14 to improve to 6-0. River Falls fell to 3-3.

Division 2 No. 6 Holmen also stayed unbeaten after cruising past Tomah 42-6.

The Vikings improved to 6-0, while Tomah remained in search of its first victory.

Week 6 brought another significant result in the Fox Valley, where Neenah finally came out on the winning side of a matchup against one of the state's top teams.

The Rockets have faced a demanding early schedule that included Notre Dame Academy, Arrowhead and Kaukauna. On Friday, Neenah hosted Division 1 No. 8 Appleton North and earned a 21-14 upset victory.

Neenah improved to 3-3, while the Lightning fell to 4-2.

Kaukauna and Fond du Lac weren't ranked entering the week, but they produced one of Friday night's closest finishes.

The Galloping Ghosts edged the Cardinals 28-27 in a one-point thriller.

Kaukauna improved to 4-2, while Fond du Lac fell to 3-3.

De Pere also continued its rebound after a difficult stretch, defeating Green Bay Preble 28-14.

The Redbirds improved to 4-2, while the Hornets fell to 2-4.

Division 3 No. 7 Winneconne received all it could handle from Xavier.

The Hawks pushed the undefeated Wolves to the finish, but Winneconne escaped with a 17-16 victory and moved to 6-0.

Xavier fell to 3-3.

Elsewhere, Division 3 No. 5 Reedsburg responded to its first loss of the year in a big way.

After falling to Holmen in Week 5, the Beavers erupted for 74 points in a 74-7 victory over Baraboo.

Reedsburg improved to 5-1, while Baraboo dropped to 1-5.

Division 4 featured one of the state's biggest matchups, with No. 1 Freedom hosting No. 2 Little Chute in a battle of undefeated teams.

The game was competitive early, but Freedom separated itself in the second half and finished off a 49-29 victory.

The Irish improved to 6-0 and strengthened their hold on the top spot in Division 4, while Little Chute suffered its first loss and fell to 5-1.

Another Division 4 showdown produced an upset.

No. 10 Delavan-Darien traveled to face No. 6 Evansville and handed the Blue Devils their first loss, winning 32-22.

Both teams are now 5-1.

Division 4 No. 5 Stratford faced a challenge of its own against Colby.

The Tigers built a 24-7 halftime lead before Colby made a push after the break. Stratford was outscored 18-7 in the second half but held on for a 31-25 victory.

Stratford improved to 6-0, while Colby fell to 3-3.

Division 5 No. 1 Darlington remained perfect with a 45-6 victory over Fennimore.

The Redbirds improved to 6-0, while the Golden Eagles fell to 3-3.

Division 5 No. 4 Durand-Arkansaw had a much tighter test one week after knocking off then-No. 1 Regis.

The Panthers survived Elk Mound 21-14 to remain undefeated at 6-0.

Elk Mound fell to 4-2.

Division 5 No. 9 Brillion continued its surge with a 43-14 victory over Two Rivers.

The Lions' only loss came in Week 2 against Manitowoc Lutheran. Brillion has responded with four consecutive victories to improve to 5-1.

Two Rivers fell to 1-5.

Manitowoc Lutheran hasn't slowed down, either.

The Division 6 No. 5 Lancers shut out Oostburg 28-0 to improve to 6-0.

Oostburg fell to 3-3.

Division 6 No. 2 Lomira also kept its undefeated season intact with a 28-13 victory over Laconia.

The Lions improved to 6-0, while Laconia fell to 3-3.

In Division 7, top-ranked Cochrane-Fountain City continued to roll.

The Pirates defeated Eleva-Strum 55-8 and remained undefeated, reinforcing their position as one of the teams to beat in the division.

Eight-player football also delivered a pair of major matchups between undefeated teams.

No. 1 Gilman faced No. 2 Assumption in a battle at the top of the rankings, but the Pirates left little doubt with a 44-6 victory.

Gilman improved to 6-0 and has yet to allow an opponent to reach double digits this season. Assumption suffered its first loss and fell to 6-1.

No. 4 Valley Christian and No. 5 Suring also entered their matchup undefeated.

That game was considerably tighter, with Valley Christian pulling out a 28-22 victory.

Valley Christian improved to 6-0, while Suring fell to 6-1.

Another ranked thriller unfolded between Division 2 No. 10 Elkhorn and Waterford.

The teams traded punches throughout the night before the Elks held on for a 43-35 victory.

Elkhorn improved to 5-1, while Waterford fell to 4-2.

And in Janesville, records took a back seat in a rivalry game between Parker and Craig.

The matchup needed overtime before Janesville Craig prevailed 21-14 in front of its home crowd.

The Cougars improved to 3-3, while Parker fell to 2-4.

By the end of Friday night, several of Wisconsin's heavyweights had made their cases even stronger.

Arrowhead, Hamilton, Homestead, Pewaukee, Port Washington, Union Grove, Bay Port, West De Pere, Notre Dame Academy, Monona Grove, New Richmond, Holmen, Winneconne, Freedom, Stratford, Darlington, Durand-Arkansaw, Lomira and Manitowoc Lutheran were among the teams that emerged from Week 6 with perfect records still intact.

But the night also served as another reminder of how quickly things can change.

Oconomowoc went from knocking off Muskego to being shut out by Arrowhead. Evansville entered undefeated before Delavan-Darien spoiled its perfect season. Appleton North went into Neenah ranked and left with a loss. Grafton found itself on upset alert and couldn't escape West Bend West.

That's the point the season has reached.

With six weeks down, the games are no longer just about building momentum. Conference races are tightening, postseason résumés are taking shape and every Friday night gives another team the opportunity to change the picture.

Week 6 did exactly that.
