26-year-old Milwaukee man arrested after high speed chase and crash on I-43 Friday morning

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Friday morning around 6 a.m. a car passed a deputy on I-43 north around Grange Avenue going over 100 mph. The Deputy watched the car exit at Holt Avenue but then get back on the freeway.

The Deputy attempted a traffic stop but the car sped up and hit a pickup truck near Harrison Avenue. The driver of the pickup was not hurt and both cars were severely damaged.

The driver of the car fled the scene and several additional deputies responded to find the man. Deputies pursued him on foot after he climbed a fence, ran through alleys and ended up in a creek near Baran Park. A K-9 officer was tracking the suspect when he gave up.

One deputy suffered puncture injuries to his hands while climbing the fence. He was treated and released.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Milwaukee man Ray Hernandez who was arrested.
