Firefighters injured in training operation on Beaver Dam Lake recovering

DODGE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Fire officials say two of the firefighters injured in a training operation Monday night were treated and released early Tuesday morning. Both will require additional treatment before returning to duty.

The third firefighter, who authorities say was seriously injured in the incident, was taken by Flight for Life to Aurora Summit Hospital in Oconomowoc. 

The firefighter was released to return home on Wednesday, Feb. 14. There is no timeline currently available for his return to duty.

DODGE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Three Beaver Dam firefighters were hurt in a training operation Monday night on Beaver Dam Lake. 

According to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, one of them was seriously injured. 

DNR officials say the firefighters were operating on a fire department hovercraft and conducting training on the ice when they crashed into Grape Island around 7:42 p.m.

Other firefighters on scene were able to render some aid and transport the injured firefighters back to land. 

Authorities say all three had varying degrees of injuries, with some being serious. 

At least one firefighter was released from care Tuesday afternoon. 

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating why the crash happened.
