MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It was packed at MATC Monday night, as some brand-new Americans went through their naturalization ceremony to become citizens.
Thirty-six MATC students completed all the requirements to become citizens. That is double the number of students who completed the process last year.
MATC's president, Dr. Anthony Cuz, himself a child of Cuban immigrants, spoke at Monday night's ceremony, calling it a beautiful choice to become an American.
"Many of us in the room were born in this country. We're citizens by birth," said Dr. Cruz. "But those of you that are now citizens, are citizens by choice, right? What a beautiful choice to have, to become citizens of this great country."
After the ceremony, a resource fair was set up to help the new citizens ease the transition into life after school, navigate financial aid, and look at career options.
