WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Take a look at this demonstration video released by We Energies Tuesday.

Those are Mylar balloons coming into contact with power lines, and you can see the result.

These balloons are often filled with helium and released for a variety of reasons, but We Energies says they can cause power outages

In fact, last Sunday, they say about 2,000 customers lost power when balloons hit and damaged their equipment.

They say this year alone, nearly 14,000 customers have been affected, and since 2020, Mylar balloons have caused more than 120,000 outages.

The utility company is asking people to keep balloons tied down and away from power lines.
