38-foot Colorado Blue Spruce picked as Milwaukee's 2025 Christmas tree, harvested and moved to Cheer District

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The tradition of choosing and displaying a city Christmas tree has been happening for 112 years in Milwaukee.

This year's tree is a 38-foot fall Colorado Blue Spruce from in front of a home on Milwaukee's south side. The Thabet family just moved into this home off 9th St. 18 months ago, and they never imagined this would be one of their first memories in their home.

"A lot of our friends came by the house and made comments about how big it was and what we should do with the tree," said Amgad Thabet. "I made a phone call back in July and I talked to somebody at DPW Forestry Department, and they made a comment 'we'll have somebody come out and look at your tree and hopefully you get selected.' I kid you not, this is the fastest the city of Milwaukee has ever responded to any phone call. Chris was in front of my house within an hour."

The couple are huge Milwaukee Bucks fans, and now they get to see their tree than in front of Fiserv Forum as the centerpiece of the City's Christmas.

"Our first date was also at a Bucks game, and we got married in Deer District too, so when it was going there, it felt too good to be true," said Kait Schmidt Thabet.

The tree is now outside of Fiserv Forum. It will be decorated over the next few weeks, and the official city tree lighting for the public will take place on Friday, Nov. 21.
