4-year-old resuscitated and taken to hospital after fire in Racine

Update on Thursday, July 18 around 7:45 p.m.

According to the Racine Police Department, they said the child's condition has improved from what it was yesterday. 


RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A child was injured in a Racine fire on Wednesday, July 17. 
It happened around 2 p.m. near Douglas and Yout. 

According to the City of Racine Fire Department, they responded to a bedroom fire in a duplex apartment. 

The fire department says they encountered a large volume fire with smoking coming from a lower unit bedroom window. They say the fire was controlled within minutes. 

In addition, they searched for a 4-year-old who was reported missing. The child was found under a bed adjacent to the fire room. The child was removed from the building and was resuscitated. The child was immediately transported to a hospital. The fire department says the child's condition is unknown.

Two firefighters were injured in the fire with one requiring medical attention for a minor injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
