ADDISON, Wis. (CBS 58) — A 21-year-old Horicon man died early Saturday morning after his vehicle crashed into a utility pole in Washington County.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called around 4:20 a.m. to the intersection of County Highway S and Fork Road in the Town of Addison for a report of a crash involving a utility pole.

The caller reported power lines were down across the roadway and it was initially unclear whether anyone was inside the vehicle.

When deputies arrived, they determined the vehicle had crashed into the utility pole at a high rate of speed. The driver, who was the vehicle's only occupant, was found dead inside.

A preliminary investigation found the 21-year-old was traveling east on County Highway S when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the south shoulder.

The vehicle then crossed back over the roadway, entered the north shoulder, became airborne and struck the utility pole.

Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff's Office Crash Investigation Unit and the Washington County Medical Examiner's Office.
