MPD: 4-year-old killed in shooting identified, 2 adults arrested

The family of the child and the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office identifies the child as JaiNadia Little from Milwaukee.
“She just started school, last school year, she was so excited about being in school, “ said Roshunda Parker, Little’s aunt. “Everybody, is of course, devastated. You don’t expect something like this to happen to a 4-year-old.”
The shooting reportedly took place at around 9:48 p.m. near 39th and Sheridan. Police say upon arrival to the scene, was transported to Children’s Wisconsin, where she died.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting are currently under investigation. Parker said the 4-year-old girl was under the care of a family member when she was able to get access to a gun.
"Could you imagine leaving your kid in the care of somebody to babysit them and knowing that you'll never see them again? It's a tragedy, it's heartbreaking, it's devastating. That's how we feel,” Parker said.
At an event in Milwaukee on Tuesday, Feb. 18, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson called the deadly shooting a tragedy.
“We shouldn’t have a situation with guns and kids like that,” Johnson said. “We’ve got to work to make sure that folks in this community know that when you’ve got guns in your home, they’ve got to be secure.”
Parker said Little was enrolled in a Milwaukee Public School; the district released the following statement on her death:
"Milwaukee Public Schools mourns the loss of JaiNadia Little. This tragedy will be felt throughout the city. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family and loved ones."
A 25-year-old and a 41-year-old were arrested in connection to the shooting.
