Milwaukee County Jail/Family

CUDAHY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An 89-year-old Milwaukee woman has been charged in a hit-and-run crash that injured a young girl in Cudahy.

The incident happened Tuesday morning, Oct. 28. Authorities say Darlene Adam was behind the wheel of a silver sedan when she hit 9-year-old Lenci Lambert who was walking near the intersection of Swift and Ramsey, on her way to JE Jones Elementary School.

The accident left Lambert with a concussion, road rash and, according to family, fear of crosswalks.

Witnesses had varying descriptions of the suspected vehicle, so officers went to the nearby hospital to see if their cameras caught on camera any vehicle that could be a match. That's when they found the car with visible damage to the passenger's side and the driver inside for an appointment.

According to a criminal complaint, the driver was identified as Adam; she allegedly told officials she thought she had hit a rock.

Adam is facing one count of hit-and-run causing injury.

She's due in court for an initial appearance on Dec. 18.
