MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Monday, April 14, is a day to celebrate Milwaukee.
The city's "414 Day" is a nod to Milwaukee's area code, and ahead of the big day, hometown students began preparations to celebrate.
Milwaukee College Prep partnered with Adidas and local entrepreneur Shake James to give students between 2nd and 8th grade the chance to design shoes inspired by the city.
The catch -- they had to have good attendance to participate.
It ended up as a fun break from the regular rotation of classes for students who have been showing up all year long.
"I like doing this stuff, but it's not because I like coming to school," said student Major Taylor. "It's my job to come to school and this is reward for doing the right thing. It's fun because it's creative in many ways."
Adidas and Shake James will be releasing two pairs tomorrow.
One pair comes in blue to reflect Lake Michigan and Milwaukee's new flag.
A white pair pays homage to the city's cream city brick architecture.
