Admirals to wear Uecker-inspired jerseys for season finale

Milwaukee Admirals

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Admirals will pay respect to the legendary Bob Uecker this Friday, April 18, wearing jerseys popularized by Uecker in the team's advertising campaign in the 1990s.

The team says jerseys will be auctioned off in a silent auction on their website, with proceeds benefiting four charities Uecker supported: Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, Wounded Warrier Project, ALS Association-Wisconsin Chapter, and Froedtert Hospital and Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Research Center.

Fans can also register for the auction by texting ADMIRALS to 76278.

Uecker joined former team owner Lloyd Petit in a series of TV commercials in the 90s, called the Adventures of Lloyd & Bob. The team says in one of those spots, Bob was imagined as the designer of the team's new uniforms - brown and yellow plaid, like the sport coat he wore. While it was intended as a joke, the Admirals produced the jerseys and wore them in two games during the 2005-06 season.

The Admirals will also be selling plaid merchandise in the team store and online, with a portion of proceeds benefiting Ueucker's supported charities as well.
