Alderman says Capitol Drive food truck ban will be lifted in summer

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A ban on food trucks along a section of Capitol Drive will be lifted soon.

The ban that prohibited vendors from parking along the road from 76th Street to the city limits began last Saturday.

On Friday, Alderman Lamont Westmoreland said he has a plan to allow vendors back on the street.

He said in a statement the ban will be lifted sometime in the summer.

“After consultation with the City Engineer, Commissioner of the Department of Public Works, Health Department, Parking Enforcement Management and Licensing Division, I’m delighted to share that the ban on food trucks on this stretch of Capitol Dr. will be lifted this summer and in its place will be a designated food truck zone," said Ald. Westmoreland. "From now until the lift of the ban, I am working to bring more organization and structure which will dramatically reduce litter concerns, negative impacts to brick and mortar food establishments in the area, and alleviate safety concerns for both patrons and operators.”
