MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin Craft is once again teaming up with Alverno College’s Art and Cultures Center to show off the work of more than thirty local artists.

From jewelry makers to fiber artists, potters and even photographers, all of the pieces in the Creative Playground exhibit have one thing in common: collaboration. Artists worked together, often mixing mediums, to come up with something unique.

For many, it was a way to gain inspiration and for others it was the chance to learn about another artist’s craft.

“That just came from us talking about people need to just play a little bit more. Get together I mean when you’re little kid you just make friends automatically."

“Even though the work is incredibly well crafted we also wanted to talk about the play part of the art making and so the ‘Creative Playground’,” said Roxane Mayeur, the exhibition co-chair and a participating artist.

Mayeur, like many other artists, knows what it’s like to spend a lot of time working on her projects alone.

“I’m usually alone in my studio, got my music on, my windows open: which I love. But the downside to that is you don’t have anyone to bounce Ideas off of,” said Mayeur.

Mayeur welcomed the challenge.

“It’s a different kind of challenge, to figure out how to not only use your medium but how do you work with somebody else and incorporate their medium,” she said.

The exhibit will be open to the public through March 6. This Friday, Feb. 13 is the opening reception. Stop by to hear from the panel of artists and check out the exhibit.

The opening reception runs 5 to 7:30 a.m. at the Alverno Art and Cultures Center.
