ANTIOCH, Ill. (CBS 58) -- A desperate plea Friday from the family of a man missing under mysterious circumstances just across the Illinois state line.
Police say 24-year-old Tommy Howe of Antioch was in a two-car crash on I-94 near Lambs Farm in Libertyville around 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22.
Witnesses saw Howe unexplainably walk away from the scene of the accident.
Extensive searches of the Old School Forest Preserve, located just off I-94, turned up Howe's cellphone.
Police say the people in the other car were not hurt, however they say Howe may have been injured.
"Tommy, we have no idea. There was no blood in the car, no signs of any blood anywhere at the crash scene or in the forest preserve, but that doesn't mean he didn't sustain some type of injury," said Chief Geoff Guttschow of the Antioch Police Department.
Police received a tip Howe may have been walking along I-94 in Pleasant Prairie days after the crash.
Officials say he was last seen traveling on foot while wearing a gray North Face jacket and jeans.
He's described as a white male, 5'8" tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Antioch police hope you'll keep an eye out and call 847-270-9111 with any information.
