A fire in an apartment complex on Milwaukee’s far north side has claimed the lives to two children. According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, the children died as a result of a fire in an apartment complex on N Swan Road near W Allyn Street.
One adult was rescued from the fire and transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. There are no reports of any other injuries.
The fire was reported at 5:16 AM Sunday. When firefighters arrived five minutes later they immediately called for a second alarm, doubling the number of personnel and equipment on scene. According to officials, firefighters began an offensive battle and search for people in the building, but were pushed back by flames. They went into a defensive posture and when they had gained control of the fire, firefighters re-entered the building and resumed their rescue efforts.
The Milwaukee County Medial Examiner's Office said that a 2-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy were found dead in the building. Autopsies are planned for Monday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
