A boost in temperatures despite the lack of sunshine
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- According to GasBuddy, Wisconsin's average price for regular gas is $2.82 on Friday.
“At this time of the year gas prices will be slightly higher than what we see in the winter months," said Abdur Chowdhury, Marquette Economics Professor.
CBS 58 visited multiple gas stations in the Milwaukee and Waukesha area. We saw drivers filling up their tanks with prices like $2.74 and up to $3.09.
“I drive a lot so it makes it easier when the gas prices are lower," said Andrea White, driver.
With better weather, more people are driving increasing demand. Also, gas prices go up between April and September.
“During the summer months, they have to use a different blend because of the Clean Air Act of 1990 so that is a little more expensive to produce," said Chowdhury.
This time of year, a number of refineries are closed for maintenance and as a result, there's been a drop in supply.
“$2.82 on average is what we’ve seen in other Midwestern states. My guess is that it will increase but not cross three dollars," said Churdhury.
Churdhury does not expect a significant increase. He estimates prices may go up five cents to ten cents per gallon.
