Be flexible: Make sure you're stretching when exercising, especially in the winter
CBS MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Limber up! This is what any sports medicine doctor will tell you, especially as we head into the winter season. Warming up and cooling down stretches have to be an essential part of your workout routine, whether you're playing inside pickleball or running on a nature trail.
I met with Dr. Mark Neidfeldt at The Picklr in Menomonee Falls for a quick course about stretching. By the way, you should be doing this anytime of the year.
We should also mention Dr. Neidfeldt has been a Brewers physician for several decades now. He has extensive knowledge about sports medicine.
Dr. Neidfeldt tells me winter means colder weather and stiffer muscles, so it's crucial to "warm up" your body before exercising.
He says the more time you can commit, the better you'll be to avoid injuries. You'll also create better circulation, improve your circulation and mobility, and reduce stiffness. There are two kinds of stretching, dynamic and static. It's smart to incorporate both into your routine.
