Bell Ambulance employee dies after being rescued from Lake Michigan Friday night

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 61-year-old Bell Ambulance employee is dead after a near drowning in Lake Michigan late Friday night.

On Friday, June 9 around 10:40 p.m., Milwaukee County's 911 Dispatch Center received a call of a possible drowning at South Shore Marina near Nock and Iron.

The person who called said they heard a splash and saw a hat floating on the water.

Milwaukee sheriff, police and fire upon arriving at the scene, learned that a man, later identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office as John Swanson, had fallen off his docked boat and into the water.

Milwaukee fire said that Mr. Swanson's spouse showed them where he was last seen. Divers were dispatched to search for him and recovered Mr. Swanson, who was submerged under water.

Upon being pulled out of the water, Mr. Swanson did not have a pulse and was not breathing. Paramedics were able to revive him and he was taken to St. Luke's hospital, where he later died.

According to Bell Ambulance, Mr. Swanson had been employed there since 2007 as an EMT and FTO.
