'Bid adieu to Shrekfest': Popular festival in Milwaukee's Humboldt Park will not return

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Shrek's swamp is apparently being closed.

Shrekfest, the ultimate celebration of the beloved green ogre, will not return to Humboldt Park this year.

The festival, put on by 3GI Industries, was held on Labor Day weekend and brought games, music, movie screenings and more to the park.

In a Facebook post, 3GI Industries wrote in part:

"All good things must come to an end however, and it's with a heavy heart that we announce the conclusion of Shrekfest. It is with a mix of emotions that we bid adieu to Shrekfest, the ultimate celebration of love, laughter, and our favorite green ogre.

Over the years, this event has become more than just a festival; it's been a journey of joy, unity, and unforgettable memories."

Shrekfest was held in Milwaukee the last two years after success in Madison.

3GI Industries says they are grateful for the memories.

"We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported Shrekfest throughout the years—our attendees, sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who made this festival a cherished part of our lives. Your enthusiasm and love fueled the magic of Shrekfest, and for that, we are forever grateful."

3GI says they are currently doing a crowd-sourced remake of "Shrek 2."
