Blessings in a Backpack hosts Race to Feed food packing competition
PEWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Southern Wisconsin chapter of Blessings in a Backpack will hold its third annual Race to Feed on Thursday, Nov. 19 at Waukesha County Technical College.
Teams compete head-to-head in a bracket-style competition to see who can pack the most bags of food.
Susie Reed, the chapter's managing director, and Diana Schmidt, board chair, joined us Monday, Oct. 12 with a look-ahead at the competition. They talked about how it will work, whether teams are timed, how individuals can take part, how the bags will be used and how the community has helped make the event possible.
Check-in is at 4:30 p.m. and the race begins at 5 p.m. All groups and individuals can take part. Registration and sponsorships are open.
Blessings in a Backpack gives students a bag of food every Friday during the school year to address weekend food insecurity, according to the organization. Each bag has eight shelf-stable, easy-to-open items, including two proteins, two low-sugar cereals and one or two fruit items.
