Brewers' Brice Turang, Jackson Chourio win Gold Glove awards
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Two Milwaukee Brewers were honored among baseball's best defenders Sunday, with second baseman Brice Turang and left fielder Jackson Chourio earning Gold Glove awards.
Turang won the award for the second time in his career, while Chourio earned his first Gold Glove.
Turang was among several players to become repeat winners this season, joining Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman and center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, New York Yankees left fielder Cody Bellinger and Detroit catcher Dillon Dingler.
Chourio was one of several first-time winners, along with Cleveland pitcher Tanner Bibee, Texas utility man Ezequiel Duran, New York Mets pitcher Nolan McLean, Tampa Bay shortstop Tanner Walls and Seattle second baseman Cole Young.
The Gold Gloves are determined through voting by managers and up to six coaches from each team, who cannot vote for players on their own club.
Since 2013, voting has also incorporated the Society for American Baseball Research defensive index, which accounts for about 25% of the final result.
Turang also earned a $25,000 bonus for winning the award.
Around Major League Baseball, Houston first baseman Christian Walker and Atlanta first baseman Matt Olson each won their fourth Gold Gloves.
Boston and Arizona led all teams with three Gold Glove winners apiece.
