PHOENIX (CBS 58) -- Sal Frelick burst onto the scene in his first big league season in 2023, but he could be even more valuable to the Brewers in 2024.
Frelick has been getting work at third base and second base this spring. He hasn't played in a game in the infield as a professional, but Frelick says he played there during high school and is happy to shake off the rust.
Brewers' manager Pat Murphy had the perfect mentor to help Frelick step up his infield game. Dustin Pedroia played for Murphy at Arizona State before becoming a star second baseman with the Boston Red Sox.
Pedroia spent three full days working with Frelick during the offseason.
Murphy calls Frelick "special" and wants to get his bat into the lineup as much as he can. With the Brewers crowded outfield situation, playing the infield gives Frelick a chance to be versatile and valuable in his first full big-league season.
