Brewers players remember Bob Uecker as 'one of one'
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It is a day for the Milwaukee Brewers and the Milwaukee community with the passing of a legendary baseball voice.
"When you think about Brewers baseball, for me he was the first thing that came to mind," said former Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun.
Since 1971, Uecker was a part of every player that put on a Brewers uniforms life. From the day that player arrived in Milwaukee.
"You could tell right away he was a special person, and just like, the joy that he brought to every conversation and just how funny he was is what stuck to me at first," said Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich on his first time meeting Uecker after being traded to the Brewers in 2018.
Both Braun, Yelich, and pitcher Brandon Woodruff spoke to Uecker's ability to remember everyone's name and making sure to spread his joy with every player in the clubhouse. But that was not only reserved for the players.
"For my kids, when they come in the locker room or get a chance to visit with him, it was always one of their highlights of coming to the ballpark. And he treated all of our kids that way, all of our parents, all of our families that way," said Braun. "It's something that very few humans could have done, and he found a way to do it every day."
It's hard to find a Brewers moment that does not feature Uecker or his voice, the soundtrack to Brewers successes, but it’s the moments when he was just one of the guys, that the players will miss most.
"Gosh man, just getting to see him every day, knowing that was part of your routine and part of your day was always something to look forward to," said Woodruff.
"Just a special guy. One of one," said Yelich.
