Brewers gear up for a new season with upgrades to AmFam Field, events to honor Bob Uecker
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- We are just one week away from the Milwaukee Brewers home opener, and the Crew is getting ready for another great season at American Family Field.
On Monday, March 24, members of the Brewers staff—including President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger—shared more about what fans can expect heading into the 2025 season.
"It's sort of a state holiday when the Brewers have their home opener," said Schlesinger.
This is the first season under their new lease, which will ensure the Brewers have a home to play in until 2050.
Schlesinger says there is a lot of new infrastructure that fans might not notice right away but would notice if it wasn't working.
"The district has completely redone all the broadcasting cable infrastructure it was original to the ballpark, so you can imagine the advances in technology between 1997 and today. This is going to make it a much more seamless and effective experience for people watching Brewers games," Schlesinger explained.
According to Schlesinger, the original kitchen on the club level was also renovated with new kitchen equipment and is now a much larger space.
On the terrace level of right field, 1,600 seats were removed to make room for offices.
"Even though we are now at 40,100 [seats], we are still comfortably above the average in stadium capacity," said Schlesinger.
The focus of these renovations was to enhance the fan experience, including the ease of entering the gates through the "MLB Go Ahead Entry" system.
On Monday, the grass was freshly cut, ready for the start of the season. However, Schlesinger is already planning for winter.
"We want to make this a year-round destination; winterization is going to be a big component. Whether that's basketball, hockey, concerts, wrestling, monster truck shows," said Schlesinger.
Through these improvements and new faces on the Brewers' team, Schlesinger has high hopes for the team and ballpark this season.
"We're tracking overall higher tickets sold this year versus the same time last year," Schlesinger said. "Once we start playing baseball and our fans see the team on the field, I expect those numbers to continue to grow, and again we're going to have a very, very good year on the field, and a very, very good year at the gate."
A major change this season will be the way the Brewers honor and hold events horning Bob Uecker's legacy.
"First and foremost, we have to talk about who is not going to be here on opening day and that's Bob Uecker," said Schlesinger.
The dates for those events have yet to be announced, but you can honor the legend with new Uecker merchandise at the stadium store.
"We are going to do a number of things to honor his memory on opening day and throughout the season," said Schlesinger.
Schlesinger said they are working on a date for Bob Uecker's celebration of life later this summer and plan to announce it in early April.
