MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A criminal complaint issued in Waukesha County Circuit Court has identified the suspect in a Feb. 5 hit-and-run crash involving a Brookfield officer who was responding to an earlier crash as 20-year-old Mesiah Williams.

The complaint quotes a responding officer who tended to the Brookfield police officer who was reportedly struck by a Ford SUV. The struck officer provided details about the vehicle that hit him and the direction in which they fled.

When Williams was spotted walking with a woman on Moorland Road returning towards the crash scene, he was reportedly visibly distraught. When asked by police if he struck an officer, the complaint quotes Williams as saying, "I don't know, yes."

He also is quoted as saying he did not mean to flee the scene, and that he was going to get his girlfriend. "I didn't mean to, he said it was okay for me to go get my girlfriend."

A records check reportedly confirmed that Williams did not have a valid driver's license and had previously been convicted of driving without a valid driver's license.

Williams faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while suspended and causing great bodily harm, a hit and run causing great bodily harm, operating without a license and felony bail jumping.
