MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Decked out in green, thousands of Milwaukee Bucks fans took over Deer District on Saturday, Oct. 22 to support their team during the home opener game.

The Bucks faced off against the Houston Rockets at Fiserv Forum, following their first win of the season on Thursday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

For fans like seven-year-old Kalib, and his 11-year-old brother Kyii, being able to see their favorite players was inspiring as they both want to be NBA athletes when they grow up.

Laurie Holman and her husband William came to celebrate her birthday.

“We are so excited! Oh, for the Bucks? I meant for my birthday. But we’re really excited for the Bucks too!” Holman said laughing.

10-year-old Marcus also spent his birthday at Fiserv Forum to watch his second NBA game in-person ever.

“I’m really excited,” Marcus said.

He, his brother Tadeo, and their father, Robert Butchike, traveled all the way from Edmonton in Alberta, Canada.

“Throughout the summer holidays, they spent two hours practicing [basketball] outside and doing chores for Mom and that gave them some allowance. So, we knew as parents, this would be a trip that would be memorable especially with it being their first NBA game in Milwaukee,” Butchike said. “So, we traveled through Los Angeles to visit with friends, then we took a flight to Chicago, then we took a train at 1 o’clock in the morning to get here and then just to be here for this game, specifically for this game.”

Butchike added that being able to see their “athletic heroes” was a special moment for the family.

The next home game is Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m. against the Brooklyn Nets.
