CALEDONIA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A family in Caledonia are warning others after their family dog was fatally shot by a pellet gun. 

The incident happened on Wednesday, July 15. AJ Larson tells CBS 58, his 2-year-old dog named Chili had run away from a backyard by climbing over a fence. 

After running off, Larson says he heard Chili "yelp and scream" before she collapsed. 

Chili was rushed to an emergency animal hospital in Oak Creek, where it was determined she had been shot with a pellet gun and had a bullet lodged in the left side of her body. 

Chili died the next day. 

Lason wants others to know that even a BB or pellet gun can be deadly.
