FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Campbellsport man charged with multiple accounts of bestiality was sentenced to two years in prison.
Thirty-five-year-old Steven Rosales spoke in court Tuesday afternoon, apologizing for his actions.
Rosales told the court his wife's multiple miscarriages, the loss of his father-in-law, and other stressful events caused him to seek harmful coping mechanisms, including bestiality.
In April, law enforcement officers discovered text messages Rosales sent where he admits to having sex with his elderly dog. Rosales also admitted to taking photos of himself engaging in sexual acts with his dog and sent them to the same person.
“I know I caused a lot of hurt and a lot of shame. A lot of mistrust, and I accept full responsibility for that," said Rosales.
Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney said in court, Rosales' career as a police officer did not give him a free pass. Toney says Rosales was in a position of trust and he broke it.
“There’s not an excuse, there’s not an explanation, and there’s not acceptance within society for the criminal conduct the defendant engaged in," said Toney.
Rosales will also serve three years of extended supervision.
He faces separate charges in Washington County for sexual misconduct after he was accused of sending sexual messages to a student while he was a school resource officer.
