SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Cudahy and South Milwaukee police and fire departments responded to a deadly incident near the intersection of Chicago and Hawthorne on Wednesday, March 22.
According to authorities, the accident occurred following a police pursuit on E. Layton Ave. in Cudahy that began at around 3:14 a.m. Police report that the reason for the initial pursuit was speeding, unsafe lane deviation and improper display of registration.
That pursuit lasted for around 3.4 miles with a top speed reaching around 100 mph.
Cudahy police confirmed to CBS 58 that one person died as a result of the crash, with a report from the department noting that "the dangerousness of the suspect's speeds" caused police to lose sight of the vehicle, thereby terminating the pursuit.
The vehicle was found by the South Milwaukee Police Department around 40 minutes later having been involved in the fatal crash. The Milwaukee medical examiner's office identified the deceased as an adult male. Cudahy police say that the deceased had a warrant for his arrest.
South Milwaukee police took to social media to advise drivers to avoid the area of the incident early Wednesday.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Cudahy Police Department at (414) 769-2260.
