WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It was a special day for some students in Carroll University's animal behavior program.
On Tuesday, students were paired up with six foster dogs from the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County. It's part of their advanced skills in canine management and training course.
This is the sixth time HAWS has partnered with Carroll for this program.
The adoptable dogs live with the students for the entire semester and they'll each learn from each other through the process.
"Our goal is just to train them, have them do tricks, have a little bit better manners, and then by the end of the semester, our goal is to have them adopted out," said senior Lauren Wells.
"Students come here for this program because it's such a unique experience," said Dr. Lee Kesting, assistant professor of human-animal interactions. "I mean, how many students can say, I fostered a dog for a semester during college?"
In December, the semester wraps up with a graduation ceremony for the pups, when they're finally placed in their forever homes.
