CBS 58 Exclusive: Mother of baby boy killed in stolen car crash speaks out a day before son's birthday
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's been almost a year since a crash on Milwaukee's north side claimed the life of a baby boy, who would have turned two years old on Thursday; his mother speaks out in an exclusive interview with CBS 58.
"I just want my baby back, but I know that I can't get that," said Mikayla Tweedie in tears.
On Jan. 27, Tweedie lost her young son in an unimaginable way.
"I went inside my home, my family acquaintance was in the car, the keys (were) still in the car," she explained.
Officials said Tweedie's one-year-old Zarion Robinson was still strapped inside his car seat when that family acquaintance took off in the vehicle. A short time later, it crashed, and Robinson did not survive.
"My baby was a bright baby, he barely cried," Tweedie added.
Antwineesha Burse, 32, was hospitalized with injuries from the crash, and while an arrest warrant was issued, she was never taken into custody. After being released from the hospital, police said she fled. Burse is still on the run.
CBS 58 has learned there are two new felony counts added to this case, involving driving while intoxicated.
Burse faces the following felony counts:
Count 1: Knowingly operate motor vehicle without a valid license-cause of death
Count 2: Homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle
Count 3: Homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration
A toxicology report found Burse's blood alcohol concentration to be about 0.25. That's roughly three times the legal limit in Wisconsin.
"I just want to ask her why and I just want to know how does she feel, if she even feels bad or anything 'cause there ain't no way of bringing him back," Tweedie said.
Burse faces a fine of up to $210,000 and 56 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Tweedie's guardian angel would have turned two years old Thursday. In Zarion's honor, a balloon release will take place Thursday Dec. 28 at 3:30 p.m. at the site of the crash. Community members are invited to join, in support of the family and the baby boy's memory,
