CBS 58 highlights hometown doctor to kick off National Physicians Week
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Wednesday, March 25, marked the start of National Physicians Week, March 25-31, and nobody needs to be told how important doctors are. CBS 58 met a doctor in Racine who's a strong example of the value of doctors to any society.
"It's wonderful just to be able to provide care for people. And it's a unique thing and I'm blessed, very blessed," said Dr. Paul Durbin.
Dr. Paul Durbin is an internal medicine doctor at Ascension All Saints in Racine, and we're told he's loved by his patients. But his work doesn't stop there, he volunteers at Ascension's Medical Mission at Home program.
He works with homeless people and he and his wife have served as a host family in Racine's foster care program.
Dr. Durbin says all the extra work he does comes from his Christian faith background.
"Scripture tells us we're supposed to help others and to serve others. Love God, love your neighbor and so out of that, I see events like 'Medical Mission,'" said Dr. Durbin.
National Physicians Week honors the dedication, leadership and service of doctors like Dr. Durbin. This year's theme is "Unity in Healthcare," which highlights the importance of collaboration across the health care system.
