MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- New Covid-19 vaccines are coming ahead of the fall and winter season.
The FDA approved and gathered emergency use authorization this week for updated shots. Health officials are reminding families to make a plan to protect themselves from respiratory illnesses. The CDC says this new covid vaccine will be one of the best lines of defense.
"We continue to see the highest number of hospitalizations and death from COVID happening in the winter months," said
Mandy Cohen, Director of the CDC during a media briefing Friday. Cohen says the best plan for your health this upcoming season is to remain vigilant.
"Use the tools we have. Vaccines, testing, and treatment against the illnesses responsible for the majority of fall and winter deaths and hospitalizations," she said. Officials say this updated vaccine will be the strongest form of protection yet.
"The covid virus continues to mutate and change and change faster than the flu virus," Cohen said.
Doctors recommend anyone six months and older get the updated shot. The new vaccines are expected to be available in the coming week.
