Charges filed against man accused in hit-and-run crash that killed pregnant woman
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Criminal charges have been filed against a 20-year-old Milwaukee man accused in a hit-and-run crash that left a pregnant woman dead.
Frank Mosley has been charged with the following:
- First-degree reckless homicide
- First-degree reckless homicide-unborn child
- Hit-and-run resulting in death
The crash happened Thursday, Nov. 2 near 100th and Capitol. Erin Mogensen, 32, had just left her home and less than three blocks into her trip, her car was struck by an SUV traveling down Capitol going more than 100 mph -- according to officials.
Mogensen was seven weeks pregnant at the time of the crash.
The driver of the SUV fled the scene on foot and was captured on security footage.
According to a criminal complaint, police found a Walmart receipt inside the BMW and surveillance footage from the store led them to Mosely.
On Nov. 2, Mosley was arrested at a residence near 39th and Meinecke. Officials say he was in a back yard burning paperwork that connected him to the BMW involved in the crash. Court documents also state that investigators found the BMW key inside the residence where Mosely was arrested.
In court Tuesday, the attorney representing the state said that the BMW Mosely was driving was stolen and that he had stolen it from a friend who trusted him.
Bond was set at $200,000.
Investigators say they recovered data from the BMW airbag system and found that just five seconds before the crash, Mosely was traveling more than 115 mph. The speed limit on Capitol Dr. is 35 mph.
Mosely is due bac in court on Nov. 14.
