MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Saddle up for the Kentucky Derby. The big race to the roses is Saturday, May 3. If you can’t make it to Churchill Downs, there’s a local celebration happening right here in Milwaukee.

Maxie’s is celebrating the 18th annual Derby Day Party. They’ll have mint Juleps and other well-known derby drinks, food inspired by Louisville, Ky., raffles, prizes and betting on horses.

“We as a non-gaming establishment aren't actually giving cash prizes but some really nice top prizes,” said Dan Sidner, co-owner of Maxie’s.

All of the money raised from betting and admission will go to support the Hunger Task Force.

“To be together to watch the most exciting 2 minutes in sports is a very different experience than being at home,” said Sidner. “If you just want to come out and enjoy it, great. But we also encourage everyone to dress for the day. We have prizes for best dressed lady, man, couple, group, elegant hats […] there have been people coming to this almost every year for 15-18 years now. It's a great party. we're very proud to be able to do it for Hunger Task Force, the whole thing is a fundraiser.”

The party starts at 2 p.m. The race is expected to start at 6 p.m. Admission is $22 at the door or $20 ahead of time.
