CBS 58 WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- To this day, Chester Marcol has one of the most improbable Packers stories. The kicker helps others overcome drug addictions because he lived it. High during his most memorable moment, 45 years ago in 1980.
"Well, I just started cocaine a week before the game," Chester Marcol says emphatically.
"A 35-yard attempt by Chester Marcol, with David Beverly holding," announcer Lindsey Nelson says.
"So, I snorted a little bit before the game and snorted a little bit at halftime," Marcol says.
"It's blocked!" Nelson says.
"That highlight was played for a long time," Marcol says.
"Taken by Marcol, Chester Marcol. Chester Marcol. Chester Marcol takes it in. Can you believe it? Run back by Chester Marcol. Marcol appears to be in tears. I think he's in tears. Chester Marcol. He has to be in tears," Nelson says.
"I think he's crying. And I did cry," Marcol says. "You know, you get so pumped up emotionally. You gotta release it somehow. And I was never embarrassed to cry. And so, it was a day that was special. Incredibly special. Regardless of whatever happened in my life, yep, people always talk about that play."
"Do they say are you the guy that had those glasses that ran the touchdown in?" CBS 58's Lance Allan asks.
"Yeah, I only played football one game with my glasses on," Marcol says with a laugh.
"And yet you're known for that?"
"Yeah, so, 'I didn't know you wore glasses,' I didn't!" Marcol says. "I said yeah, one game."
Now, Chester is a counselor and goes to places like Joy radio to say that drugs damage.
"Alcohol is the greatest remover on earth," Marcol says. "It removes paint off the tables, all the way through lives. Made an impact on me because it's the truth. Ask for help."
