City of Racine blesses 3rd baby box in Wisconsin
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The city of Racine blessed Wisconsin's newest baby box at the Racine Fire Department Tuesday, Dec. 10.
The new location, at 3829 Washington Avenue, will offer a "secure and compassionate option for parents in crisis," according to Safe Haven Baby Boxes.
They say the addition marks the third location in Wisconsin, of 296 boxes across the country.
Safe Haven Baby Boxes was founded with a mission of ending infant abandonment.
“We have seen time and time again that preparation can save and change lives," said Monica Kelsey, founder of Safe Haven Baby Boxes. "We never know when or where we will be needed, so it is crucial to have options for mothers in crisis. I am grateful for local advocates who take our mission to their community.”
Since 2017, Safe Haven says 54 infants have been safely surrendered in a baby box.
