MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Charges have been filed against a Milwaukee man accused of seriously injuring a Columbia St. Mary's healthcare worker in an attack early Monday morning, May 4.

It happened around 4:45 a.m. near the hospital on Milwaukee's east side.

Kenneth Flagg, 36, is charged with substantial battery and bodily harm to a person who works in a health care facility.

Prosecutors say Flagg was in the hallway, speaking with the victim about treatment, when "without warning," he began striking the victim in the head with a large Milwaukee Tool battery. Another employee tackled Flagg, according to the criminal complaint, and waited for security to arrive.

Officials say the victim, a 38-year-old man, suffered lacerations to his scalp, a laceration to the side of his jaw, and a chipped tooth.

Investigators recovered security footage from the hospital that reportedly shows Flagg and the healthcare worker talking in the hallway before Flagg strikes him in the head with a red power block. Flagg continues to beat the victim with the power block, according to the complaint, striking him in the head about five times before being subdued.

Court records show Flagg is due in court for an initial appearance May 6.
