MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault offered several suggestions regarding safety modifications and improvements at the Intermodal Station Tuesday, in response to the assault that occurred at the station in April.

Thirty-one-year-old Cephus Johnson is charged in the incident after allegedly climbing over a partition in the women's restroom and sexually assaulting a woman.

Among the commission's recommendations are:

  • More trained security officers both inside and around the station
  • Trauma-informed and sexual violence prevention training for station staff and security
  • Security stationed closer to bathrooms and help desk area
  • Improved lighting in parking areas, hallways, entrances and waiting spaces
  • Posters/messaging indicating the presence of security cameras and monitoring
  • Cameras outside restroom entrances
  • Clear rapid response emergency protocols
  • Restroom porters/ambassadors

The commission says they're committed to working with the local alder representing the area to develop solutions to strengthen safety and help prevent future incidents of assault.
