MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Dashawn Conner, 21, has been charged with felony murder after an alleged armed robbery attempt left two people dead and another injured.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, officers responded to a shots fired and motor vehicle crash report near 34th and Sheridan Ave. They found a white Chevy Malibu, and inside was 20-year-old Zy'Kerion Teague with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police also found multiple bullet casings inside and outside the car.

That same day, a 16-year-old was shot and called for help at a gas station along W. Silver Spring.

The next day, on Jan. 11, police found the body of 17-year-old Jorey Anderson, who died of gunshot wounds. Anderson was found with a rifle which linked back to some of the bullet casings found in the Malibu, according to the criminal complaint.

Police interviewed the 16-year-old who was shot, who stated that on Jan. 10, he, Teague and Anderson were driving in Teague's black Impala. He stated that Teague and Anderson were talking about robbing someone for a firearm. They then met up with Teague's brother and switched cars from Teague's Impala to his brother's Chevy.

Prosecutors say Teague's brother had two other people in the car with him, including Conner, who he didn't know.

The complaint outlines that all six were driving around and smoking marijuana. They then stopped, and Conner stated he needed to stretch his legs. Conner then allegedly pointed a gun at Anderson and demanded that Anderson give up his possessions, which included a small rifle that he had concealed underneath his coat.

The 16-year-old, according to the complaint, stated that he believed Jorey Anderson, who was seated in the back of the car, had the rifle pointed towards the front of the car at this point. He said Anderson then fired the first shot and hit Teague, who was in the front passenger seat.

The teen reportedly stated that he heard three to four shots afterwards, which he believed came from Conner. He was hit by the gunfire and got out of the car, running to a gas station for help.

Police interrogated Conner, who prosecutors say first denied being present, then later admitted to his involvement in the attempted robbery. According to him, the group decided to steal Anderson's rifle, and he stepped out of the vehicle after they stopped to "stretch and make room for the robbery attempt."

He reportedly stated that the driver and another person in the car pulled out their firearms, and Conner attempted to grab the rifle when Anderson shot him in the leg. Conner said he then returned fire.

According to the complaint, Conner stated that he "wasn't aiming at anyone, he was just shooting into the car."

When asked why they attempted to rob Anderson of his rifle, the complaint says Conner "didn't have a good answer and said, 'just to have it, I guess.'"

Conner has been charged with two counts of felony murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
