County Executive Crowley orders flags to half-staff in honor of snowplow driver killed in 894 crash

MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) -- Flags will be flown at half-staff at the Milwaukee County Courthouse Feb. 3-5 in honor of John Manka, the Milwaukee County snowplow operator who died following a crash while on duty Jan. 20.

The Office of County Executive David Crowley announced the order Thursday.

Manka, 71, was involved in the crash on 894 Friday morning and passed away after being transported to an area hospital.

The county executive's office says he's survived by his wife of 30 years, his four children, sisters, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.

He's described as an "avid Harley rider" who enjoyed Packers games and supporting his children and grandchildren at their sporting events.

The office says a "Celebration of Life" has been planned for Feb. 4 from 2-7 p.m. at the Oak Creek American Legion Lower Hall.
