Tony Romo, CBS Sports part ways following Milwaukee OWI arrest
CBS 58 File MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways, the network announced Friday, Oct. 2, ending a 9-year partnership that began after Romo's retirement from the Dallas Cowboys.
Romo pleaded no contest to three citations stemming from a July arrest in Milwaukee in which he pled no contest to a civil OWI offense
In a September social media post, the Burlington native said he had been struggling with pain medication and alcohol since retiring from football, which he linked to pain from multiple back surgeries, and that he planned to focus on his health and family.
Romo had been on leave from his role as the network's lead NFL analyst since his July arrest. CBS Sports said in a statement:
"We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward."
Romo also released his own statement regarding his future.
"I'm going to use this time to take a break, something I've never done before, and focus on my health and my family before moving on to my next opportunity. I am grateful for my time with CBS Sports and for the continued support of my family and friends, as well as the NFL community and fans."
Romo joined CBS in 2017 and had served as the network's top color analyst alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz.
