NOW: County leaders approve $30M in funding to support redevelopment of Mitchell Park Domes

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- For over 100 years, Mitchell Park Domes' mission has been to "inspire people through plants."

Wednesday, July 30, the conservatory was given additional funding so it could continue to do just that.

The legislation commits $30 million in capital funding towards the redevelopment and restoration of the domes. The long-awaited plan not only preserves a Milwaukee treasure, but protects taxpayer wallets, as well.

"And so, with today's signing, we can finally forge a path forward for the domes that will protect taxpayers and help us save money in the long run while preserving a treasured Milwaukee landmark," Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley said.

"And with that commitment, comes a clear message," Milwaukee County Board Supervisor Marcelia Nicholson added. "Milwaukee County is stepping up with partnership and purpose to reimagine the domes for years to come."

In addition to the money given by Milwaukee County, Mitchell Park Domes will also need to meet philanthropic and fundraising goals to complete the project.
