Courage MKE cuts ribbon on supportive housing for local LGBTQ youth

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Courage MKE cut the ribbon on the C2 Apartments in Milwaukee's Walker's Point neighborhood on Friday, March 15. The project is aimed at supporting young LGBTQ adults facing the risk of being without housing.

The project overcame obstacles, including a burglary in April 2023 that delayed its completion and cost tens of thousands of dollars, leading to an effort to help Courage MKE recoup some of those losses to help approach the finish line.

Designed for people aged 18 to 24, the project focuses on essential life skills training, with 24/7 mentorship.

Brenna Creamer, house manager with Courage MKE, emphasized the project’s holistic approach, saying, "You can offer someone a bed and a hot meal, but if you never give them the tools and resources to sustain themselves, they will always be in need of a hot meal and a bed."

Gov. Tony Evers attended the Wednesday opening and praised the effort.

"The work you do is critical to ensuring Wisconsin works for everyone and that our shared efforts to build a state where every individual has the opportunities to be successful," said Evers.

The C2 Apartments are the first of their kind in Wisconsin, and more information about them can be found by clicking here to visit Courage MKE online.
