MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --Thousands of families chose to celebrate 4th of July by watching their favorite Midwest rivals at it again -- Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers.

According to a Brewers spokesperson, the stadium sold out on Monday, and they expected more than 40,000 fans in attendance Tuesday afternoon.

Many fans were at the stadium's parking lot since noon when they began allowing people inside to tailgate, though the game was set to begin at 3:10 p.m.

Some Cubs and Brewers fans told CBS 58 News they forgot to wear sunscreen and didn't think to bring it along. Though there were some clouds, depending on the area, the heat and humidity was felt throughout the morning and afternoon hours.

Latoya Baxter said she came with her family -- half of who are from Chicago and rooting for the Cubs, while she roots for her hometown team of Milwaukee.

"We got the Cubs on the grill, and the Brewers family is chilling," she said. "This is the first time that I've ever come to a baseball game for the 4th, so this might just be a new tradition for the family."

They were not the only divided household seen at American Family Field. The Chora family is originally from Mexico. They live in Chicago and drove early Tuesday morning to celebrate Independence Day, watching their first-ever Cubs vs. Brewers game.

"It's a tradition now," said Salvador Chora. "They (were) born here, so they gotta realize that we're part of two different countries, but we still celebrate America, you know."

Four friends from Illinois also shared with CBS 58 News that they took the holiday as a work trip opportunity. Half of the team roots for the Brewers and the other half for the Cubs.

"My best friend passed away in September and he was a big Cubs fan," said Joshua Scherr. "So, here to root on the Cubs even though I'm a Brewers fan."

No matter who ends up winning the game Tuesday, the real winners are those who brought their sunscreen with them and made sure not to get sunburned.
