Local 'Day of The Dead' festivities highlight love and remembrance
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Coming off Halloween is "Day of The Dead," or Dia de los Muertos. It's a holiday with Mexican origins happening on Nov. 1 and 2.
Contrary to what you might think, the occasion has some lighter undertones.
The two-day event welcomes back the souls of deceased relatives for a brief reunion including food, drink and celebration. Centered around the holiday are colorful ofrendas or altars. They're like shrines or a kind of memorial to pay respect to the dead.
Various Hometown locations, like Latino Arts and The Domes, are holding special events or activities to go with the holiday, some are actually happening this coming weekend and extending into November.
