SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Sheriff's officials say several life-threatening injuries were reported at the first of two crash scenes in the Town of Sheboygan Falls Thursday morning, Aug. 7.
Around 7:35 a.m., multiple 911 calls reported a multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 23 in the area of Sunset Road.
Deputies found at least nine vehicles involved, with serious injuries reported.
According to the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle -- driven by a 79-year-old Sheboygan woman -- was crossing State Highway 23 at Sunset Road in heavy fog, causing the initial crash. Officials say visibility at the time was less than 1/10 mile.
A 22-year-old Plymouth man was ultimately transported to Froedtert Hospital in Waukesha with life-threatening injuries. A 37-year-old woman from Glenbeulah was operating a 2013 Kia and transported to Aurora Sheboygan with serious injuries. Two juvenile passengers in her vehicle were transported with minor injuries to Aurora Sheboygan.
The 79-year-old driver will be cited for failure to yield right of way causing injury.
The sheriff's office says as deputies began to close the scene and redirect traffic, another six-vehicle accident occurred west of the initial scene.
An active investigation is underway and will be reconstructed by Wisconsin State Patrol.
